Micky James, born and raised in the shadows of Philly and NYC, naturally developed a taste for the theatrical and aspired to become a performer from a young age.
His latest single Shiver explores feelings of isolation, loss and depression, and how suffering from mental illness can negatively affect your important relationships. The track’s melody is upbeat, features catchy guitar riffs, and feels uplifting and joyful – a contrast to the darker lyrics.
Micky’s vocals are raw and unique, and his glam rock sound reminds me of some of the older classics from the 70’s. Maybe not a surprise as Micky picks up inspiration from the authentic energy of the iconic 60’s and 70’s rock bands. “I wanted to take pieces of nostalgia and give it a contemporary twist” he says. Something I would say he has managed to do very well.
The music video has a bright colourful aesthetic with Micky dressed in a bright yellow suit, seemingly happy and rocking it out. In between these happy scenes we are shown scenes with less colour and a clearly more depressed Micky, maybe hinting to the fact that everything is not always as good as it seems from the outside?
