During his label event, STMPD RCRDS Label Night, at Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) in October, Martin Garrix premiered a new song, Told You So, with Jex Jordyn. The LA-based singer and songwriter is already known for her collaborations with other DJs, recently working as a songwriter with the DJ Alan Walker. Fans seemed to absolutely love Told You So, and a short month later, it is officially released.
A while ago, Jex posted the chorus of the song on Instagram, accompanied by a simple piano melody. She asked her followers to tag DJs she should work with on the song. While there were many options, the collaboration with the Dutch DJ was eventually decided. During Amsterdam Music Festival 2024, they premiered the song to an even bigger audience, right after Martin Garrix was announced as no. 1 in DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs ranking. The nights in Amsterdam marked not only Jex's first time performing Told You So live but also her debut live performance in general.
Told You So features the typical Garrix-style production paired with Jex's piano melody characteristics. They've combined electronic dance music with pop elements to create an upbeat sound perfect for dancing. While the melody is uplifting and energetic, the lyrics could be interpreted as reflecting the protagonist's fear of regretting hesitation.
"Eyes are on me
I can feel the fire
Not like anything that I've ever known
Might be the one and only chance
I get with you
And I'll regret it if I take it too slow"
The lyrics encapsulate a deep sense of urgency – an unshakable feeling of needing to act before regret sets in.
"Something in my body
Something that's in my soul
Tells me you're somebody
Someone I need to know
No, I can't leave here sorry
If I just let this go
Don't wanna hear my heart say
'I told you so' (I told you so)"
Martin Garrix and Jex have created a track that resonates both on the dance floor and emotionally. Its relatable theme of seizing opportunities before it's too late adds depth to the infectious beat, making it a standout addition to both artists' repertoires. With live premieres already thrilling audiences worldwide, this song is set to make a lasting impact in the EDM and pop music scenes.
