Jimi Somewhere
Baby from Atlanta
Release: March 2, 2023
Review by Nathalie Knudsen
On March 2nd, Norwegian singer-songwriter-producer Jimi Somewhere released his newest single Baby from Atlanta. This is his first solo release of 2023, having released the collab, ANGELA, with fellow Norwegian artist Sval in January. The track is, as always, produced by Milo Orchis, and is set to be the first single off of Jimi's new EP The Sailor.

The song is not unlike any other Jimi Somewhere track, as he continues to prove that his music should appear on a movie soundtrack one day. Starting off with a symphony that sounds like the end of a romance movie, Jimi will have you feeling giddy and hopelessly romantic from the first few notes (also, Jimi Somewhere classical album when? :')). While the song transitions as the beat kicks in, the lyrics walk us through the feelings of having someone catch your eye ("I know you see the way I look at you") and feeling silly as you're getting caught up in the blossoming romance ("I get dumb, super dumb, when you come round"). The melody feels lightweight and happy, with fun lyrics such as "she knows how to shake it up like a fanta" (is this an ad?) and "she moved in to my head, that's where my thoughts live". The song finishes with what sounds like, but I hope is actually not, a baby crying, and a beautiful piano melody.
